Richard G. Peterson 2022 Pinot Noir

Richard G. Peterson

2022 Richard G. Peterson Pinot Noir

As history and legend purport, the Wrotham clone was discovered near Wrotham Village in southeast England; the cuttings were introduced there by the Romans some 2,000 years ago. The Wrotham clone produces a uniquely rich color and a spicy character not often found in other Pinot Noir wines. In 1980, Dick Peterson brought the first and only Wrotham cuttings back to California and planted them in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA just south of Monterey Bay. This region boasts a cool climate and one of the longest growing seasons in California.

Dick Peterson has been an innovator in the California wine industry since the 1960s. As a young man, he produced novel products such as the first wine cooler for Seagrams and Gallo's Hearty Burgundy. He was pivotal to the success of a portfolio of wineries, including Beaulieu Vineyards with Andre Tchelistcheff, the Monterey Vineyard, Atlas Peak Vineyards and Folie à Deux Winery

We thought you might enjoy hearing directly from the venerable Dick Peterson as he briefly discusses his latest release, the Richard G. Peterson 2022 Pinot Noir, Sta, Lucia Highlands. At the young age of 92 years, Dick is still making wines as he has since the 1950s. His wine, just like him, is age worthy and will not disappoint!

"Light to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2024 Pinot Noir sails out of the glass with bright, breezy scents of pomegranate, kirsch, and juicy red currants, plus nuances of violets, underbrush, and dried Provence herbs. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers a crisp backbone with fine-grained texture to match the vibrant red berry flavors, finishing fragrant."

"Made by Heidi (Peterson) Barrett's legendary father, from his own small vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands, Amuse Bouche's 2023 Richard G. Peterson Pinot Noir is a unique wine, made from the Wrotham Clone of Pinot Noir, which Peterson brought over from England in 1980. This is a lithe, medium-bodied wine that is silky and elegant yet imbued with ample complexity: smoky oak frames tea-like herbal notes, interwoven with cranberries and pie cherries."

"An elegant, spicy, floral wine made from a unique clone of pinot noir. Wild white strawberries, cinnamon bark, cardamom and potpourri. Balanced to a tee with 7 g/L of acidity and a light grip from crisp tannins. The wine’s namesake, Richard Peterson, brought the Wrotham clone from England. Drink now."
